Venetian Plaster wall finish by Springfield Plaster

What is Venetian Plaster?

Venetian plaster is the most refined finish we offer. Slaked lime and finely ground marble are applied in several paper-thin layers, then burnished with a steel trowel until the surface tightens into a smooth, luminous sheen that reads like polished stone.

Because the material is mineral rather than paint, the surface has genuine depth. Light enters the top layers and reflects back from the ones beneath, so the wall shifts subtly through the day. It is the finish we are asked for most often on fireplaces, entry halls and formal dining rooms in Springfield.

Best uses for Venetian Plaster

  • Fireplace surrounds and feature walls
  • Entry halls and stairwells
  • Dining rooms and powder rooms
  • Hotel lobbies, restaurants and retail

How we apply it

We tint every batch in-house and can match a paint chip, fabric swatch or stone sample. Venetian plaster accepts a wax or acrylic seal that protects the burnish and allows the wall to be wiped clean. Expect three to five coats and two to four days for a typical feature wall.

Venetian Plaster questions

How much does Venetian plaster cost in Springfield?

Venetian plaster typically runs $30 to $55 per square foot installed in the Springfield area, depending on the number of coats, color and detailing. Every project receives a written itemized quote after a site visit.

Can Venetian plaster be applied over drywall?

Yes. We skim and prime the drywall so the lime bonds correctly, then apply the plaster in thin layers. Existing painted walls can also be prepared and finished.

Is Venetian plaster durable?

Very. Lime plaster hardens over time and, once sealed, resists scuffs and moisture. Minor damage can be spot repaired and re-burnished.
